Game Changers
What leaders, innovators, and mavericks do to win at life.
About this book
The premise is straightforward: Asprey interviewed several hundred high performers for his podcast, asked most of them variations of the same question about what mattered most, and organised the recurring answers into 46 rules grouped under becoming smarter, faster and happier. The claim is that consensus across very different successful people points at something real.
That method is also the book's defining limitation, and it is worth being clear about. The rules are distilled opinion, not synthesis of research. Some of what emerges is well supported and unsurprising — sleep as a performance input rather than a luxury, the effect of relationships and community on health, the cost of chronic stress, the value of saying no. Other rules rest on the confidence of a single guest, and a few sections drift well outside the evidence base into psychedelics, energy work and personal transformation practices, presented alongside the better-grounded material with no change in register.
The structure is browsable rather than sequential. Each rule gets a short chapter with the reasoning, one or two guest anecdotes, and a practical instruction, so it works as something to dip into.
It is aimed at a reader interested in what the broader performance and longevity community believes, and it is a poor first book for someone who wants to know what the research actually shows, because it offers no way to tell a rule backed by trials from a rule backed by one interesting conversation. Read it as an anthropology of the field rather than a manual. The habits chapters — sleep, light, movement, relationships, gratitude — are worth taking seriously and align with mainstream findings. The supplement, device and consciousness material should be treated as hypotheses. Where a rule would change something meaningful about your health, the interview it came from is not sufficient grounds on its own.
