Phosphatidylserine (PS)New
A membrane phospholipid concentrated in neurons, supplemented (usually soy- or sunflower-derived) for memory and cognitive aging, with modest, short-term and heterogeneous human evidence.
Mechanism of Action
PS is a structural component of neuronal membranes and supports synaptic signalling, acetylcholine release, membrane fluidity and neurotrophic signalling; oral PS also appears to blunt the cortisol response to physical stress in some small studies.
Dosing Protocol
300mg per day (often 100 mg three times daily)
Standard starting dose based on research
Therapeutic Range

Minimum
300
Maximum
With meals, divided into 1-3 doses; once-daily 300 mg is also used
Cycling Protocol
No formal cycling; trials last 6-12 weeks, with a few at 6 months. Assess benefit objectively after about 3 months.
Dosages are general guidelines. Individual requirements vary based on body weight, health status, and specific goals. Start with lower doses and adjust based on response.
Benefits
Primary Benefits
- Possible modest support for memory and attention in older adults
- Cell-membrane and synaptic support
Secondary Benefits
Safety Information
Contraindications
Do not use if any of the following apply:
- •Soy allergy (for soy-derived products; sunflower-derived is an alternative)
- •Pregnancy and breastfeeding (insufficient data)
- •Bleeding disorders or planned surgery (caution)
Drug/Supplement Interactions
May interact with the following. Consult a healthcare provider before combining:
Potential Side Effects
Some users may experience:
This is not a complete list of interactions or side effects. Individual responses vary. Always start with the lowest effective dose and monitor your response. Report any adverse effects to your healthcare provider.
Quality Markers
Look for these specific quality indicators when sourcing this compound:
- Soy- or sunflower-derived (not bovine cortex)
- Label states mg of phosphatidylserine itself, not mg of "phospholipid complex"
- Non-GMO and soy-allergen statement where relevant
- Third-party tested
Trusted Certifications
Note: Supplement quality varies dramatically between brands. Cheap supplements often contain fillers, incorrect doses, or contaminants. Investing in quality products from reputable manufacturers is essential for safety and efficacy.
