    Moderate Evidence

Moderate-to-strong evidence for orthopedic applications: a 2026 meta-analysis (11 RCTs, 851 patients) found PRP significantly improved overall WOMAC function scores in knee osteoarthritis versus controls, and PRP outperformed hyaluronic acid at 3, 6, and 12 months and outperformed corticosteroids at 3-6 months across multiple RCTs (Journal of Clinical Medicine review, 2025). However, the high-quality RESTORE trial found no significant PRP-vs-saline difference at 12 months, so pain-specific outcomes remain mixed even as overall function scores favor PRP; benefits appear greater in patients under 60. Hair restoration for androgenetic alopecia is well-supported by a 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 43 RCTs (1,877 patients, Dermatology and Therapy), showing improved hair density and reduced shedding, though effects on hair thickness were not statistically significant. Facial rejuvenation evidence remains preliminary.

    Mechanism of Action

Platelets release growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF) that stimulate tissue repair, collagen synthesis, angiogenesis, and cellular regeneration.

    Who Is This For?

Tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, hair loss, facial rejuvenation. Poor response if severe tissue damage.

    Protocol & Dosing

    Dose

Typically 10-20ml blood yields 3-5ml PRP. Concentration varies by system. A 2026 systematic review found PRP outcomes in knee osteoarthritis correlate with the total deliverable platelet dose, underscoring that preparation system and concentration meaningfully affect results (Hooper et al., PM&R, 2026).

    Practitioner Notes

    Clinical annotations from Dr. Goel

Quality of PRP varies significantly by preparation system. Leukocyte-rich vs leukocyte-poor depends on indication. Combine with other regenerative therapies.
