Omega-3 Fish Oil
High-concentration EPA/DHA fish oil for cardiovascular, brain, and inflammatory support — among the most rigorously studied longevity supplements. Recent 2025 evidence links higher omega-3 intake to lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in people with established heart disease, and a 2025 Nature Aging analysis of the DO-HEALTH trial found that 1 g/day modestly slowed biological aging across several epigenetic clocks. Individual results vary; discuss use with your physician.
Mechanism of Action
EPA and DHA incorporate into cell-membrane phospholipids, where they modulate the production of inflammatory eicosanoids and give rise to specialized pro-resolving mediators (resolvins and protectins) that help resolve inflammation. They support endothelial function, help lower triglycerides, and stabilize neuronal membrane signaling. Emerging trial data suggest these membrane and anti-inflammatory effects may also influence epigenetic markers of biological aging, though this remains an area of active research.

A 2025 analysis of the DO-HEALTH randomized trial (777 adults aged 70+, 3 years) reported that 1 g/day of omega-3 modestly slowed biological aging across several epigenetic clocks — by up to roughly four months — with additive benefits when combined with vitamin D and strength training (Nature Aging, 2025). Separately, a 2025 analysis of U.S. NHANES data in adults with cardiovascular disease found that those in the highest quintile of omega-3 intake had about 23% lower all-cause mortality (HR 0.77, 95% CI 0.60–0.99) and about 37% lower cardiovascular mortality (HR 0.63, 95% CI 0.42–0.95) than those in the lowest quintile. These are observational and trial-level associations in specific populations and do not guarantee individual results; omega-3 is not a treatment for any disease. Discuss supplementation with your physician, especially if you take blood thinners.
